This year Greatness Camp hosted college tours for 80 students in the Metro Detroit Area. Students from Harper Woods High School as well as River Rouge High School participated in a five-day college tour. Among the colleges visited were Ohio State University, Howard University, Hampton University, and the University of Maryland. At each visit, students were able to tour the campuses and acquire information about college admissions, student life, financial aid, career development support, academic support services and much more. In addition to the school visits, students also were able to visit many popular tourist attractions including the Smithsonian Museums, the White House, and historical monuments in the Washington, D.C. area. For many of the students, this was their first experience out of their local communities. To hear and read their reflections about the college tour and their experiences is very humbling and GREAT to know that Greatness Camp is making a difference “one student at a time.”
This is Greatness Camp’s second year in conjunction with United Way for Southeastern Michigan to host college tours for students attending underrepresented and underserved school districts. Last year we had the honor of hosting a group of 40 students to visit colleges such as Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and more.
